Useful Things | Note to Myself Tuesday. 12.16.08 11:18 am Saturday. 12.13.08 9:09 pm ::side note:: I actually wrote this somewhere else. I just figured I'd put it on here, since I'm still apparently in the top 10. I really don't want to be there, but I might as well put something that's almost somewhat worth reading. Hooray last minute get together before I go finals crazy! I was on my way to the library. I changed the radio station, and there was one that was playing a song I haven't heard in awhile. It was Missy Elliot's "Lose Control." There was a smooth transition which included something that sounded like the beginning beep beep beeps of Flo Rida's "Low." I started literally cringing in my car when Missy Elliot's song ended and a new song came on (I forgot the name). Mind you, Flo Rida's beeps were still going on. So here I am cringing because the two songs were both of different keys, and they sounded off. I was in pain until I passed Grace Covell, so pretty much my whole drive sucked. But the thing is that I began to wonder. You know, music always had structure. There were always rules you had to follow. By doing your own thing, you'd practically be an innovator, but this would still be limited. Everything stayed in key. Everything stayed harmonious. Everything made sense. Then people began to get bored and stray from these rules. They began making up their own rules. Now you have people who are still called composers. Artists such as Philip Glass ("Einstein on the Beach"), John Cage ("4'33""), Edgard Varèse (Poème électronique), and others created what they thought was music. Now, I won't go into detail with what each of these composers envisioned, because I still have to go over them myself for the final and I'm terrible at these explanations XD. Anyway, the concept of music has changed dramatically. Take Charles Ives' "Putnam Camp, Redding, Connecticut." The premise of the whole thing is that a child watches a parade, falls asleep, and dreams about the war (or something). And if you listen to the whole piece, you can hear some familiar tunes such as "Yankee Doodle." Anyway, the piece starts out normally and sound sounds like an actual parade. Later on it gets all minor and stuff, and things seem all jumbled. You can pinpoint separate songs, but it's certainly difficult to hear the piece as a whole. The bottom line is that I liked it. It sounded like a parade where one band play something, and as they march away you hear an oncoming band playing something different as the first band's music begins to dissipate. So if you related all that to what I heard on the radio (Flo Rida's beeps mixed with the song I forgot), I should probably say that I understand what the person on the radio was doing. I'm not sure if I can say it was my favorite mix, but I can say I appreciate it. The word isn't coming out. We're in a time period where the term, music, is less clear than it was before. Boundaries are being broken, and the concept of "order" is changing as well. I'm not even sure what I'm writing about anymore because I lost my train of thought. Good morning! EDIT:: I remember now. My whole point was that the person who did the remix I didn't like did his best. Maybe it's not that groundbreaking, but I guess if he wants to mix two completely different keys into one, then he can do it x__x my brain isn't working and I can't explain it anymore clearly. Comment! (0) | Recommend! I'm stuck Wednesday. 12.3.08 1:56 pm I decided to give Naruto a chance, and now I have less than 100 episodes left. My problem is that I haven't been making time to watch it. My time's been used on the game called Fiesta. It's too addicting. Still need jorb. Comment! (3) | Recommend! Please don't stop the-- please don't stop the-- Tuesday. 11.25.08 7:31 pm This might be old news to you, but it's new to me. The show is called "Real Chance of Love" and it stars Real and Chance. These brothers were both contestants on the spin-off series "I Love New York" which also happens to be a spin-off of "Flavor of Love." Sad, isn't it? I figured that the drama, the house, and the contests would all be the same. They always are. With MTV being their opponent (ohnoes! They have Tila and she's bisexual and she makes out with her groupies and she's bisexual), VH1 probably feels that we need more. so they give us more. I'm getting sick of it though. After the second season of "Flavor of Love" I just forgot about it all. Didn't Flav dump the third winner? If you ask me, I think they should give Somethin a show. Either her or one of the other girls who lacked screen time. And give it a different premise. They're not looking for love. Turn them into mystical sand angels with a mission to poke each and every beach goer who litters the area. And while they poke, they should sing. Hey, why not bring in some music? VH1 stopped playing music for reality shows. VH1, please listen to Rihanna. Please don't stop the music. Comment! (4) | Recommend!
