Anime
Sunday. 6.17.07 8:38 pm
I've been watching it a lot lately. It's kind of weird. There are all these scenarios that just won't cut it with "live action."
The first series that really started getting me into anime is called Gunslinger Girl. So on iTunes there is a section where you can find tv shows. There's an anime subsection. I was wondering if it were worth it to purchase an episode on one of these choices. I decided to try one series out, and I hoped for the best.
Gunslinger Girl takes place in modern Italy. The government has one newly developed branch that uses these girls to deal with their "dirty work." The girls are all victims of various scenarios and are given a second chance at life. They are given these cybernetic implants and undergo rigorous training known as conditioning. Each girl is given a handler who chooses the amount of conditioning the girl needs. The handlers train the girls to the best of their ability to successfully carry out missions. What makes this anime disturbing is the fact that these girls are young. I'm talking about elementary school young. This shocker is complimented with appropriate music and character designs. The girls have the stereotypical big eyes while the adults have the rather smaller eyes. This was definitely appropriate because it shows the physical differences between the handlers and their cyborgs. The girls are fragile and innocent, yet they assassinate without thinking twice. And their eyes being huge reminds me of the eyes of babies. Apparently the guns are very detailed (I'm not a huge gun person so I really don't have any expertise here).

Yea for choppy reviews! Umm..

So that's how I became so intrigued with anime. I just find it different from a lot of the crap you see on television. I am sick of watching spin offs of Flavor of Love-- even though I do find some of those shows hilarious in the beginning-- and I don't watch anything else. Reality TV can be entertaining but it gets old.

I went on YouTube and finished watching dot hack// Sign. I first saw it on Cartoon Network, but I never finished. They stopped showing it before I was able to watch four full episodes. I liked it but I'd rather it be a shorter series. It just seemed like it kept going around in circles. I don't know... I was disappointed but I still enjoyed watching it.

Well that's what I've been up to for the last couple of days. Physics on Thursday. It's the same as graduation. Eff.

Watch My Hime. Mai Hime. Something like that. It starts off really campy but around episode 10 it gets extremely dark.. I can't recommend any series more than it.('Cept for DBZ, since that was the first one I watched way back when I was a a youngin'.)

Mai Hime isn't that great...an average anime at best. If I knew what your fav. genre is I could recommend some good ones, but...

I disliked Hack//sign, I only cared about it since at the time I was playing EQ so it sort of interested me.

If you're into cute violent series Elfen Lied is a great one. I find the special funny as hell too. If you're into comedies and ok with a bit of pervert humor then you can't go wrong with Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO). Dragon ball was 100 times better then DBZ. Naruto is started to drag on like DBZ and it's driving me crazy. If they get rid of Gaara I'm going to spit nails! GRRR!

Hmm...anime.
I never really thought I'd like it either, considering how most of the people you see watching anime are generally those rabid fans (usually involving Inuyasha or Naruto or both...no offense to the people who like them -_-). But surprisingly a few shows managed to get me absorbed, and once you start it's hard to stop. So I understand. And it's not really wierd, I'm pretty sure the only person here who can truly say they despise anime is randomjunk, but you know how she is ;-)

P.S. If you care, I liked Evangelion, although it started getting a little mind-freakish near the end. I thought FMA was great too, but that's just me.

Kino's Journey is really good.
You should see if your local public library carries anime DVDs or not. Mine does, and that's how I watch a lot of what I have - for FREE.

Vision of Esca Flowne is good, too. And Samarai Shamploo. Those are some of my favorites I've watched so far.

"out there" animes that aren't based on fighting... Um FLCL (No not that fooly cooly crap on Cartoon Network. Well it is, but I'm talking about subbed.) out there, fast paced and you'll need to watch it at least twice. Kino no Tabi, very mellow. Haibane Renmei, another mellow, but good one. Ghost in the Shell movie and Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex. All are good. It does have fighting, but the plot is great and it's very well written.

Sorry it's very hard to think of non-violent series. :/ I'll try to think of more later.
